What Is A Mala?

Curious about what malas are? They're prayer beads used in Buddhist and Hindu traditions for counting mantras (Sanskrit prayers or chants). A typical mala has 108 beads (plus the guru bead), which correspond to the number of mantras typically repeated during each round of meditation.

Here at MalaforVets, we use gemstones, seeds, and different wood beads to make our malas.

Here is our newest mala! What makes this mala a little different is its size. Most of our malas use 8mm or 6mm beads, but this one uses 10mm beads. This makes it longer…and heavier. Personally, I prefer heavier malas for my mantra meditation practices. If you like this mala, you can buy it here!

Now that you know what a mala is…perhaps you would like to know how some of our clients pick a mala? Here is Phill from American Yogi…who we’ve collaborated with several times last year…be on the lookout for our next project. (FYI…there is nothing in the works yet!!!)
